Comments:

This is unusual for me as it's a funk i F. Most of my funk tunes are in almost eny key but F. So I surprised myself. To make it easy it has the chord changes of a standard 12-bar blues.

For some unknown reason my creativity has been low lately but now it hit again and thus we have a slamming funk tune with slap bass, double rhythm guitars and a clavinet. On top of it all there some synth brass stabs. Go wild with this one!

Comments:

It has almost been 2 months since my hand surgery but I'm finally out of the cast and wear a support of very hard plastic. The good news is that I can remove that for rehab and my doctor said that playing the guitar is good rehab. I got the title from the fact that last Friday the doctor took out the three steel pins I had in my wrist to support the reconstructed ligaments.

So to celebrate my newly won "freedom" I put together this piece but it did hurt. Therefore, not a lot of fast runs and very few strums.

Bass: Sandberg Bullet Special recorded direct with T-Rex Squeezer and Amplitube 3
Brass: Native Instruments Kontakt 4 factory library

Drums: Native Instruments Battery 3
Recorded with: Steinberg Cubase 5.1
Comments:

I had fallen and hurt my hand and knew I was going in for surgery so I wanted to record a happy sort of tune to wish myself good luck and good recovery. So this is how this funk came to be. Mixed it after the surgery with my left hand as the right is embedded in a big cast after a 3 hour operation where they opened me up at 5 places. I still hope you get something out of this track.

This track also highlight both my "always on" pedals. When playing clean guitar sounds I always use my T-Rex Møller and when record bass there's always the T-Rex Squeezer. For some reason these pedals increase the dynamic feel.

When I need a mood boost I often write a new tune. This is such a tune. I was part of a project at work. This project was launched by management and was considered very successful. Problem was that while everybody thought it was a very good idea, few wanted to buy into it. Hmmmm.

Bass: Sandberg Bullet Special recorded direct and processed with Native Instruments Guitar Rig 4
Brass, Rhodes and Hammond B3: Native Instruments Kontakt 4 factory library

Drums: Native Instruments Battery 3
Recorded with: Steinberg Cubase 5 with NI GR4 Mobile I/O
Comments:

I got the Native Instruments Komplete 6 package and I instantly found GuitarRig 4 to be very inspiring. Very soon I realized that with only GR4 for guitars and bass, Battery 3 for drums and Kontakt 4 for the rest you can easily compose a huge number of tunes. Every sound in this tune is either guitar or bass through Guitar Rig 4 orgenerated by Battery or Kontakt 4. That's why I named the tune "All In The Box".
Please note that Kontakt 4 generated Rhodes, Hammond and horn section. All "funny sounds" were guitar and GuitarRig 4.
Guitar and bass recorded using the NI GR4 Mobile very inexpensive audio I/O. Great feel with that unit.
Above all GR4 is a joy to play.

Comments:

This tune started out with a drum groove. That groove changed when the bass came and the even more so when the rhythm guitars were recorded. So now there's nothing left from the original groove but I still think it's one of the grooviest tunes I have ever written.

Comments:

I have always wanted to be proficient with the bass and I especially like slap bass. I know much of it is regarded as a cliché but I can't help it. It's sort of frustrating because I don't spend as much time on bass as I need to get good but whenever I try I have fun so I keep doing it. :-)

I tried out some of the whackier sides of my Boss GS-10 and found out that I could actually get the Ring Modulator to follow the notes I was playing. This is cool and made me write this happy tune.

Comments:

I had just bought the Barber Tone Press and came up with the first rhythm part and thought I needed a tune to go with that. I think I was very much influenced by Stevie Wonder for the feel of this tune. This tune is in the key of E.

Comments:

A really funky uptempo number with some pushy horns moving the groove along the right path. I managed to get a really nice and dynamic sound using my 335 copy in close approximation of the great Larry Carlton and I wanted a track to play along with. A track that allowed both bluesy as well as longer, jazzier and more fluid lines. This is the result.

Comments:

I was trying out the Overloud TH-1 for a magazine review and found it to be very inspiring. So far this is the only software I have found with a guitar compressor that actually behaves like a hardware unit. Eminently playable.
Also notable on this track is that all guitars were recorded dry and then run through 7 individual instances of TH-1. All processing of the guitars were done with the TH-1. No other eq, delay, reverb, etc. Didn't strain the CPU much at all.

Someone explained to me how they worked with compressor on the bass to get a good slap bass result. Eager to try it out I wrote this tune. I then applied healthy doses of compression on the drums and the rhythm guitars as well. This definitely is FUNK!

The title for this tune is not misspelled. I wrote this title as it was inspired by a Suhr Classic I used to have. What about the tune you may ask? It's a funky sort of tune with a slap bass courtesy of Sven Bornemark's Broomstick Bass plug-in with a lot of rythms underneath creating a solid foundation for you funkist licks and tricks.
